GW: "A PRETTY STRONG PERFORMANCE"

14 December 2013

Manager Graham Westley was quick to praise his team, if not the officials, after today’s 2-2 draw at Port Vale.

He told Boro Player: “We’ve come away from home to Swindon on Tuesday and Port Vale today, who are both in the top ten and we’ve more than earned draws. I’ll never look at draws and say they’re acceptable because we want to be winning games.

"I’ve got to say the lads put in a lot of effort today. They played to their strengths, they showed good experience and organisation. It was a pretty strong performance on the whole.

"I couldn’t see them scoring if we’d kept 11 men on the pitch. We have to look at discipline, we have to look at the silly cards that we are taking. But I’ve got to say, I look at Roarie’s card that he took and then I look at the card they didn’t take on the edge of the box - decisions just aren’t being made on a fair basis.”

Graham also reserved praise for Jordan Burrow after the striker’s two goals today: “Jordan is a brilliant, brilliant young lad. He’s a credit to his parents and to himself and is going to be one hell of a player. I’m delighted he’s got some goals in his first start for a while. His general play was very good. He took two terrific goals today and long may that continue for him.”
