Boro Player spoke to Head of Youth Darren Sarll on Thursday, ahead of his side’s FA Youth Cup tie with Barnsley on Friday night.
When asked if his side are looking forward to the test, he said “We are – I think we’re just looking forward to having a game. Our last competitive game was against Wigan in the youth cup so it’s been a while. We’ve managed to get a few friendly games in on artificial surfaces which has been good for us but it’ll be nice to get on the grass again tomorrow night.”
His youth side have become the first side to reach the Fourth Round of the youth cup and the game against Barnsley will take place at Oakwell tonight [Friday]. Fans may not be aware of the quality of youth teams around the country, but no mistake can be made with Barnsley, explained Sarll.
“They’re very good, I spent a year in Yorkshire last year and they are the academy in Yorkshire – that includes Leeds and Huddersfield. Their faciltiies are magnificent, they do go big on youth and they are very good. I saw them play a couple of times last year and they was very impressed with them.”
Live commentary of tonight’s game will be available on Boro Player, provided by Barnsley FC, and you can also sign in now to see the full interview with Sarll.
