ROBBO LOOKING FOR WINNING WEEKEND

26 March 2013

Boro Player spoke to Captain and Temporary Player/Manager Mark Roberts on Tuesday, reflecting on defeat to Tranmere Rovers at the weekend and looking ahead to another week on the training ground.

Speaking at Bragbury End, the club’s new 42-acre training facility that will be officially opened soon, Roberts spoke of disappointment at not continuing an unbeaten record when in charge of the team that lasted three games under his guidance last season. He told Boro Player, “The week had been all focused on winning the game on Sunday; we prepared properly and we were really up for the game and I think the lads showed a lot of good things in the game but unfortunately it didn’t turn out the way we had planned.”

The game was played on a tough surface following snow and cold conditions at Prenton Park, but refusing to point fingers Robbo said, “We’re not going to look at excuses, the conditions were the same for both teams, we were just delighted that the game was on so we’re not going to look for any problems that we faced, we will just look at our own performance, see what we can improve and come back stronger.”

Roberts named an attacking line-up, with Dani Lopez and Robin Shroot in attack and Luke Freeman and Lucas Akins on either wing, he described that decision as one partly based on “personnel being available” and continued “I wanted us to go an attack it, I wanted us to leave everything out there and didn’t want us to leave the game thinking ‘what if’ and what might have been.”
