ROBERTS EYES HUNGER AND DESIRE

11 March 2013

Boro Player spoke to captain Mark Roberts after Saturday’s defeat against Prestong North End at Deepdale and he was clearly disappointed with the result and performance, but said that his side will aim to come back stronger at home to Bournemouth on Tuesday evening.

Speaking pitch side after the final whistle, Roberts spoke of a side that were hurting, but also one that were hungry to taste victory as they did against Brentford last Tuesday.

“[There was] massive disappointment in the dressing room after the game, we just didn’t turn up today. We showed what we were all about on Tuesday and what we are capable of but again today we also showed what we are capable of. The poor side of us that in recent weeks has cost us defeat on too many occasions.”

The only change from the side that performed so well just four days earlier was the absence of James Dunne, suspended after picking up 10 bookings this season, but Robbo pointed the finger at something other than a personnel change.

“As a collective we just didn’t match the hunger and desire that Preston showed. We managed to show those qualities on Tuesday and that’s the reason we won the game so we have to look at ourselves in the mirror, reflect on it and learn from it and I’m sure a lot of the players will. Like I say there was massive disappointment in the dressing room after the game and fortunately we’ve got a chance to bounce straight back on Tuesday.”

Attentions now turn to the visit of the Cherries on Tuesday evening and the Boro captain is eyeing another memorable night at the Lamex.

“Bournemouth are one of the teams towards the top of the league, they’re not on a great run themselves of late but I’m sure they’ll be looking to put that right on Tuesday as well so we need to show the character, the desire that I mentioned before and it starts now really. As soon as the final whistle goes you start preparing for Tuesday, you have to dust yourselves down, learn from what went on today and make sure we come out fighting on Tuesday night.”
