Skipper Jon Ashton was a disappointed man after today's 3-1 defeat to Shrewsbury, telling Boro Player the team's performance just wasn't up to scratch.

"We've had a chat in the dressing room after the game and we know it wasn't good enough.

"We spoke after the game on Tuesday too. We were disappointed to lose against Gillingham but we wanted to put it right today. Today just wasn't good enough though.

"We got ourselves in front, maybe against the run of play a little bit. They came back at us and we found ourselves 2-1 down. We really should've kicked on, found a second goal and then push to get ahead.

"We came out for the second half, they got their third quite quickly and we suddenly found ourselves on the back foot. We managed to create a few opportunities, late on Luke started getting forward a bit more and putting in some good balls in the box but we just couldn't get on the end of them."

The interview with Jon will be available to view in due course on YouTube / Boro Player.
