GW: "IT'S UP TO US TO BOUNCE BACK"

22 November 2013

The gaffer speaks ahead of the clash at London Road

With 4 days to reflect on the 3-0 loss at Rotherham, Graham Westley was very clear in his message to the squad. He spoke about the need for all members of the squad to challenge for a place in the starting XI as fatigue hit the lads last Saturday against Rotherham.

“Saturday was always coming in some respects, the lads have put so much work into the games that they’ve played and I could see the signs of fatigue. It was worrying me during the week and it was definitely one of those situations where I would change the side if I had the players to change over.

“Sometimes the temptation to change players has been resisted quite easily because the form of the lads in the squad isn’t quite at the right level.

“Were trying to get players to step up to the plate and put more of a challenge in.

“We’ve had a week to get ready for this next game so we can leave the signs of fatigue behind and get ourselves back to winning ways.”

After getting off to a great start to the season Peterborough have hit a bit of a poor patch of form, accentuated by the 2-0 loss at Walsall on Monday night which Darren Ferguson admitted was a “very poor performance”. Graham knows that Peterborough are desperate to get back to winning ways, just as Boro are.

“They’ll be trying to bounce back. They had a 2-0 defeat at Walsall and Dino watched the game for me, he said it was 2-0 could have been 7. They’ve had the type of performance that we had last weekend so they’ll be looking to bounce back just like we are.

“When you get two sides that are bound to be focused, it adds to the appeal of the game. Both sides will be looking to get back on track, one of them will get back on track and it’s up to us to make sure it’s us.”
