THALASSITIS STRIKES FOR CYPRUS U21s

14 October 2013

Michael Thalassitis experienced a mixed evening on Friday by scoring in Cyprus U21s' 2-1 win over Serbia before receiving a late red card.

The young striker, currently on a season-long loan at Ebbsfleet United, scored in the 71st minute in Achnas to give the hosts a 2-0 lead before picking up two quick bookings late on, to become one of five players dismissed during the game - three of which were in injury time.

Whilst Serbia pulled one back it wasn't enough to prevent a Cyprus win, leaving them second in Group 9 of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2013-15, although they've played the most games in the group.

Elsewhere in international fixtures this weekend, Dale Gorman played 90 minutes as Northern Ireland U19s snatched a late 1-1 draw against France on Saturday. After being an unused sub in Thursday's 2-0 defeat to Belgium U19s, Dale will be hoping to feature against Iceland tomorrow afternoon.
