TEAM RARING TO GO

6 September 2013

"Improvement" is the word as the team look ahead to Tranmere.

The training ground was full of optimism on Thursday ahead of this weekend’s game with Tranmere and with a full week of preparation coming to a head, the team are ready and raring to go.

The terms “improvement” and “improving” were echoed by many of the players, and there’s a strong belief that the team are doing exactly that and have much more to come.

Peter Hartley, in particular, was in a buoyant mood when talking about the direction the team are heading in: “I don’t even think we’ve touched the surface really,” he said.

“We look solid as a unit but going forward we’ve not even touched the surface yet. As soon as going forward clicks I think we’ll destroy teams”.

Whilst manager Graham Westley wasn’t ready to make any bold claims, he admitted the team are on the right track.

“I think we’re further ahead than we probably expected. The overall performance level has been pretty high on the whole. There are moments where you get upset, of course you do, but I think the lads have worked very, very hard for the football club and I think that what they’ve done so far has been a credit to them.”

Jon Ashton echoed the gaffer’s sentiments: “Obviously there’s a lot of new players coming in at the start of the season and I think we’ve gelled together quite well in a short period.

“I think it’s a case of learning each other’s game and training with each other day in and day out. We’re only going to improve.”
