Team news:

The good news is that although there are a few knocks as usual, GW told us on Thursday afternoon that there were over 20 players out in training that morning so he'll have a good squad available to select from for Saturday.

In worse news; Jon Ashton has suffered a broken bone in his leg and is expected to be out for 6-8 weeks, although considering it's Jon Ashton, he'll probably be back within a month...

Adam Marriott won't be ready for Saturday but we're hopeful of Dean Wells' return and in long-term injury news, Harry Worley and Calvin Zola's rehab is going as well as possible. Zola should be back on the pitch in the new year whilst former-Exile Worley's possible return date is the end of January.

Last season…

Last season was Newport County’s first in the Football League since 1988 and like many clubs that gain promotion from the Conference, had an impressive first season in League 2. County had no problems finding the net; they were the league’s 6th highest scorers however they had more trouble keeping it out as they finished with the joint 19th worst defence.

So far this season…

Newport fans will be over-the-moon with their form this season as the Welsh club have pushed themselves into the play-off spaces thanks to a wonderful run of form. After starting the season without a win in four games including three losses, Newport have made clear improvements as they have only lost one league game since the opening month of the season. The Exiles have won both of their last two games, both away from home and both scoring three goals in the process.

Recent form…

Last time we met:

Saturday will be the first ever competitive meeting between Stevenage and Newport!

Betting with Sky Bet:

Stevenage are 13/5 underdogs going into the game on Saturday meaning a £20 bet would return over £70 should Boro do the business.

A 1-0 win has been priced at 17/2 whilst a 2-0 win is 16/1. 2-1 is 11/1 whilst the 1-1 draw is 5/1.

Lee Barnard is favourite to score the first goal at 7/1, whilst Beardo is at 8s and Brunt is 9/1.
