MOUSINHO: AN EASY DECISION

3 February 2014

John Mousinho has been speaking about his return to Stevenage, telling us it was an easy decision to make once he knew of the club’s interest.

On Friday the midfielder re-signed for Boro on loan until the end of the season from Preston and said it was good to be back in familiar surroundings.

“Obviously I had a great spell here a couple of years back,” he told us. “I know all about the place, I know the fans, the fans know me and it’s exactly the same with the staff. That’s going to make it quite an easy transition. The only change really is the training ground and that’s a massive improvement.

“I’ve not really been playing games at Preston and a brief loan spell at Gillingham ended with injury. As soon as I was fit again I wanted games, so once it came apparent that the manager wanted me here it was a very easy decision.

"It’s really good to be back and I’m looking forward to getting straight back into it on Tuesday night."

Looking back at his previous spell here, John said, “We had a really good couple of seasons. We got promotion the first season with that playoff win and we were unlucky the second year not to go a bit further and fell at the semi-final.

"It was a massive disappointment for everyone as that team had been together for so long. Overall though I have nothing but really good memories of my first time here.”

Moose has already played twice against Boro this season, winning both games and scoring what proved the decisive goal at Priestfield back in late November.

“I remember the lads gave us a fairly tough game at Deepdale in September, but Preston ran out winners that day. It was another tough game at Gillingham although I think there’s plenty there for the lads to build on. The cup run shows there’s plenty of ability. They’ve beaten sides from higher up, competed with sides in this league and seen off sides from the leagues below.

"There should be enough about the squad and enough belief to get a run going and get wins under our belts. There’s certainly plenty of firepower in the side and I just think the sooner we get ourselves together and get on a nice little run the better.

"We can’t really look beyond Tuesday night, it’s another big opportunity to get three points. Unfortunately the game was called off Saturday but it gave us the chance to get some training in on Saturday afternoon."

Finally John took time to thank the fans who gave him such a warm welcome on social media when his return was announced.

"It’s been a great welcome back to the club. The fans were always very good to me during my first spell. Hopefully if we can replicate a bit of that success then that’ll continue and we can keep them smiling.”
