GW: "THE PRESSURE IS OFF"

2 January 2014

Graham Westley spoke to Boro Player ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Doncaster and said the recent Gillingham postponement was a blessing in disguise.

He told us, “The big benefit was that I got to see Doncaster (play at QPR). It’s not a bonus you always get as a manager, to see your opponents in action. I saw a lot and learned a lot.

“They’re a very good side with a lot of very good footballers, playing efficiently, playing well.

“The FA Cup is massive for our football club. The lads have played with that pressure in Rounds 1 and 2 and credit it to them for handling it well. Both were tricky games. Portsmouth is a big club and it’s easy to come unstuck in a home against an FA Cup winner. Stourbridge were no mugs. We knew that was going to be a tough tie and wasn’t it just.

“Here we are in Round 3 against Doncaster. The advantage we’ve got is that they’re expected to win. The pressure is off us, we’re the underdog. They’ve got everything to lose, we’ve got everything to win. I like games like that.

"It's an interesting tie and one we’re looking forward to."
