After last night's narrow friendly defeat at Barnet, Graham Westley spoke candidly to Boro Player about the pre-season process he has to put his team through.

“You know I’m all about winning games, whether it’s pre-season or not, but we wanted to get Charlie (Lee) some minutes in his legs, we wanted to give one or two a rest who had little niggles and knocks, we had a sickness bug in the camp which took some out of contention anyway.

"It was one of those games tonight where you had to prioritise other things. Whelps has missed a week to 10 days of training so we just wanted to get some minutes into him as well

“So you’re playing lads who are struggling to be on top of their game but you put them through the minutes because it’s important.

“But then of course you suffer the result and you're sort of regretting the fact you’ve had to go through that, but that’s the pre-season process.”

“I think we achieved goals tonight but without achieving the result.”
