FLASHBACK: OPENING DAY FIXTURES GONE BY

17 June 2014

Ahead of fixture release day tomorrow, we take a look back at the last five opening games of the season - all of which have been at home!

Remember Stevenage's fixtures for the new Sky Bet League 2 campaign will be released right here at www.stevenagefc.com from 9am tomorrow morning.

Saturday 3rd August 2013
Stevenage 3, Oldham 4
Stevenage lost to the odd goal in seven in a crazy start to last season. Boro led 1-0 at the break courtesy of a Darius Charles strike from close range, but the Latics hit back three times through a James Tarkowski volley, a Jose Baxter rebound after Day had saved a penalty and a Christian Montano solo effort. 3-1 down with just 20 minutes remaining, Boro looked in trouble. However Greg Tansey tucked home and Filipe Morais beat the offside trap to slot home an 84th minute equaliser and spark wild scenes at The Lamex. However Baxter had the last laugh, scoring an 87th minute penalty to take all three points.

Boro: Day, Wedgbury, Ashton, Jones (Shroot), Hills (Morais), Akins (Haber), Heslop, Tansey, Freeman, Charles, Tounkara
Subs not used: Burrow, Deacon, N'Guessan, Arnold

Attendance: 3,009

Saturday 18th August 2012
Stevenage 1, Carlisle 1
Gary Smith’s men picked up a point in their opening game of 2012/13, courtesy of a late 87th minute Robin Shroot equaliser. Stevenage were the brighter of the two teams and had the best of the chances through Marcus Haber. However Matty Robson gave the Cumbrians a 72nd minute lead with a drilled effort into the far corner. On came Shroot just minutes later and when Adam Collin spilled Lucas Akins’ shot, the sub was there to tuck home and earn a share of the spoils.

Boro: Day, Gray, Roberts, N’Gala, Charles, Dunne, Grant, Tansey (Akins), Morais (Shroot), Freeman, Haber (Thalassitis)
Subs not used: Arnold, Furlonge, Ashton, Ball

Attendance: 2,736

Saturday 6th August 2011
Stevenage 0, Exeter 0
Stevenage began life as a League 1 club with a goalless draw at home to Exeter. The hosts had the only real chance in a poor first half, but Scott Laird saw his long-range strike saved by Grecians keeper Artur Krysiak. Craig Reid forced a smart save from Krysiak in the second half and James Dunne could have won the game for the visitors, but he fired straight at Alan Julian as both sides seemed happy to settle for a point.

Boro: Julian, Henry, Ashton, Roberts, Laird, Wilson, Edwards, Bostwick, Shroot (Long), Charles, Reid (Harrison)
Subs not used: May, Winn, Beardsley

Attendance: 3,829

Saturday 7th August 2010
Stevenage 2, Macclesfield 2
Charlie Griffin grabbed a last-gasp goal to deny Macclesfield and salvage a point for Stevenage in their first game in the Football League. Fresh from winning promotion to the Football League for the first time in their history, Boro went ahead when Griffin teed up Peter Vincenti who headed home the club’s first ever Football League goal. Macclesfield levelled when Nat Brown nodded in from close range following good work from Matt Hamshaw and Tyrone Barnett's low shot put them 2-1 up. But Griffin's low 89th-minute shot secured a point for Stevenage.

Boro: Day, Henry, Roberts, Foster, Laird, Wilson (Sinclair), Byrom, Bostwick, Winn (Odubade), Vincenti (Beardsley), Griffin
Subs not used: Long, Murphy, Bayes, Boylan

Attendance: 3,553

Stevenage 8th August 2009
Stevenage 1, Tamworth 1
10-man Stevenage secured a point in their opening game of their Conference winning campaign. Lee Boylan coolly converted from the spot to give Boro a 13th minute lead but Bradley Pritchard equalised on the half hour from a Tom Shaw cross. Charlie Griffin, Mark Roberts and Joel Byrom all went close for Boro before the latter was dismissed in the closing stages for a second booking.

Boro: Day, Henry, Ashton, Bostwick, Laird, Drury (Ashton), Murphy, Long (Cole), Byrom, Griffin, Boylan (Odubade)
Subs not used: Bayes, Beardsley

Attendance: 2,130
