WESTLEY SPEAKS ABOUT JIMMY SMITH'S DEPARTURE

19 May 2014

Manager provides background on Smith exit

Manager Graham Westley spoke today about Jimmy Smith's departure from Stevenage.

He told us, “'I spoke to all of the players at the end of the season and Jimmy was very clear that he didn't want to play League 2 football. At this time of year, there is no point in hanging onto players who want to be elsewhere and who have suitors waiting to buy them.

“Crawley made an offer, I agreed a deal and Jimmy has departed. I wish him well. He wore the armband as vice-captain and he was a good professional.

"Obviously I believe that we can be stronger without players who wish to be elsewhere and I am increasingly confident that something very positive is building here once more.”
