PLAYERS INSPIRE LOCAL SCHOOL PUPILS WITH VISITS

25 November 2014

Stevenage FC players have been out and about before training today visiting local primary schools and meeting young Boro fans!

Jon Ashton (pictured above and below at Martins Wood Primary), Chris Day and other first team players led inspirational sessions at nine schools in Stevenage and surrounding towns and villages about being role models, whilst also answering questions from pupils and signing items for the excited youngsters.

What's more, one lucky pupil at each school who shows themselves to be the best role model during lessons today will win themselves a pair of tickets for this weekend's game against Morecambe.

Alex Tunbridge, Head of Stevenage FC Foundation, comments, “These player visits are a series of motivational events which are designed to inspire young people in our local community. Whilst today's topic was role models, future visits will see the players talking to the youngsters about leadership, motivation, goal setting and aspiration.

"We know the pupils really look forward to the sessions and having a member of the Stevenage first team turn up for a lesson is something they never forget. The players also enjoy the opportunity to get out and engage with the youngsters and the feedback we receive is extremely positive.”

All the schools involved in today’s player visits are signed up to the Stevenage FC Foundation Partner Schools Programme which engages over 2,000 people a week through the delivery of sports, education, health, social inclusion and disability based provision activities. This could range from breakfast clubs, lunch clubs and after school clubs to PE lessons, playground management and football camps. Each session taught or coached is designed to help participants improve their technical levels and knowledge, as well as social and team building skills through the power of sport.”
