Stevenage advanced to the next round of the Herts Senior Cup with a 2-0 home win against Bishop's Stortford this evening.
Goals from Jack Jebb and Roarie Deacon were enough to see Boro progress against their Vanarama Conference South opponents on a chilly evening at The Lamex Stadium.
After a fairly even opening 20 minutes it was Jack Jebb who opened the scoring, slotting home neatly from inside the box. Trialist B nodded a Parrett cross just wide in the only other real chance for the hosts in the opening 45 minutes.
Bishop's Stortford came into the game much more in the second half with Adam Bailey-Dennis heading straight at Sam Beasant 10 minutes after the break. Bira Dembele put in a couple of good blocks and Beasant had to be alert to save one shot straight at him as the visitors pushed, only to be hit on the counter with 15 minutes remaining as Deacon smashed home a second.
Only a great block denied Pett a third with sub Ross Millard also seeing a goal chalked off for offside, but in the end the two goal advantage was enough, leaving Boro to advance to the next round.
