FOUNDATION YOUNGSTERS BENEFIT AS PHOTOGRAPHER SOARS TO NEW HEIGHTS

15 September 2014

Stevenage Football Club Foundation has teamed up with a local photographer to give youngsters involved in its National Citizen Service (NCS) programme a unique view of The Lamex Stadium thanks to some new aerial expertise.

Paul Simister, a commercial photographer based in Hertfordshire, was demonstrating the capabilities of the DJI Phantom Quadcopter and GoPro Hero3 camera to local teenagers on the programme, having recently completed stringent qualifications and received a permit from the Civil Aviation Authority.

Over the course of the morning the teenagers were able to learn more about the quadcopter’s capabilities, the extensive work required to gain the relevant qualifications and listen to a full safety briefing before watching a practical demonstration as it soared high above The Lamex Stadium. Flights with the DJI Phantom Quadcopter can operate up to 400ft height and 500m radius and must be within line of sight of the pilot.

Alex Tunbridge, Head of Foundation at Stevenage Football Club commented, “The NCS programme offers 16 and 17 year olds the chance to take part in exciting challenges and new opportunities. Over the four week period participants experienced a variety of adventure and thrill based activities, independent living at university as well as planning and delivery social action projects within the local community. This involves working with a number of local companies and individuals, such as Paul, who we’d like to thank for coming along to give the youngsters a fun demonstration of this new exciting equipment.”

Paul added, “The new qualification and permit allows us to offer commercial aerial photography and videography for clients across a wide range of industries such as golf courses, farming, estate agents, building and construction and hotels and theme parks.

“The qualification opens up many exciting opportunities for me as I believe I am the only photographer of this type in Stevenage and I was very pleased to be able to give youngsters involved with the NCS project a demonstration of the DJI Phantom Quadcopter and GoPro Hero3 camera.”

Paul Simister Photography was established in 2011, working with commercial clients such as Wates Construction, Wates Living Space, REW Solar, TruckOman and more recently Durkan Ltd.
