The gaffer speaks about the fans, the players and why he expects a big performance on Saturday...
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s game against fellow play-off hopefuls Northampton, GW thinks the fans are beginning to believe in his men.
‘I think the sense of something special happening again is developing. I think that every club has its own way and every club gets ready in its own way and I think the Stevenage fans are starting to realise that this group of lads are worth getting behind.
“I think they are starting to realise that there might be more to this group of lads than initially met the eye.
‘’They suffered early season as we so often do when we bring up lads up from non-league football and bring them together with some senior lads who maybe have had a difficult patch in their career.
“We try to rehabilitate one group and habilitate the other and pull them all together as one and it can be difficult to grow to love that squad when there is so much change.
“As the seasons gone on I think the players have endeared themselves to the club. You get that little bit of feeling coming from the terraces now and the noise last weekend was a little bit louder than it has been previously and that sense of anticipation is growing around the place.’’
GW believes that Monday’s win against Cheltenham will be a big confidence booster for the team ahead of Saturday.
‘’I expect the weekend to be the best performance yet from the team. I think that the team has probably grown in confidence with that scruffy three points on Monday. They were struggling along nicking a draw, nicking a draw, nicking a draw and then they suddenly got that win.
“I could almost feel like a visible sense of relief and now that they have got that nervousness out of the way, which is always something that happens in the run in, I expect to see them relax and let themselves off the leash a little bit.
“The weekend is a chance for them and the fans to come together and really produce something.’’
