MCCOMBE EXCITED TO JOIN THE BORO

7 August 2015

The centre-back spoke to us after signing with the club...

Teddy Sheringham made his fifth permanent signing of the summer earlier today, bringing in Jamie McCombe after the centre-back has spent the last week or so on trial.

Tom Hitchcock has also joined the ranks, on a one month loan deal from MK Dons.

Shortly after signing, McCombe says that everything is pointing in the right direction.

“I am just excited to be here and to be playing football. I have had a good look around whilst I have been here on trial for the last 10 days or so and I have a really good feel for the place. The training ground is excellent, it is a club that were in the play-offs last year and hopefully we can go one better this year.

“From what I have seen so far, we look a good team. I am just excited to be part of it, getting out there, playing some games and showing what I can do.”

McCombe’s arrival was pushed over the line just in time so he is registered for tomorrow’s season opener, although he admits he doesn’t know whether or not he will be involved.

“He got it with one minute to spare! I don’t know whether I will feature or not but I will be there in some capacity and I am looking forward to it.”

At 32 years old, McCombe will be one of the most seasoned players in the squad and he believes that is his strongest asset.

“My height is a big asset but the main thing is experience; organising, being a leader. I have played a lot of games at a higher level, in the Championship and League 1 so I will bring a lot of experience.

“That will be a big factor for the team this year as we have a lot of young lads and the manager is trying to get that right blend. Hopefully we’ll find a winning concoction and do really well.”
