TEDDY: THERE IS A LOT MORE TO COME

22 August 2015

Stevenage got their first win of the season at home to Hartlepool after a goal just before half-time from Fraser Franks and then a late clincher from Brett Williams was the difference as the score ended 2-0.

Manager, Teddy Sheringham was pleased with both goals and says sometimes you just need to find a way to win.

“For two different reasons two fantastic goals for us, delighted for Fraser to get his head on one and give us all a lift and then for Brett to get off the mark is great for him as well.

“I know that wasn’t a great performance, there is a lot more we can do out there and we will be working to improve.

“You have to grind out results sometimes and we did that today.”

There was a youthful look to Stevenage’s team as Rohdell Gordon, Dipo Akinyemi and Dale Gorman all started. Teddy says they all contributed well to the victory.

“They did do well. We had a few injuries on Friday, I spoke to the press about five minutes after I was told that two or three weren’t going to be alright – I didn’t want to give too much away for them to know but it was a bit of a change around in our team and I am very pleased for whoever came in and got us a result.”

Chris Whelpdale made his long awaited return to the side after recovering from surgery and the gaffer made it clear how important he sees his return.

“Big plus for us, massive plus for us. I can’t tell you how highly I rate that comeback. He did ok when he was out there but just to have him back in and around the place, he is a big player for us.”
