TONGE: I DON'T THINK THERE IS ANY REASON WHY WE CAN'T GET A RESULT

18 December 2015

Stevenage midfielder, Michael Tonge believes the ability to adapt to different games and conditions in recent weeks has been one of the big reasons that results have improved.

Boro head into tomorrow’s game on the back of three league wins in a row and Tonge says that it has been a key factor in the recent resurgence.

“We are in pretty good form and I think we have been playing pretty well. The last two games have been difficult simply because of the conditions.

“I think that is why we have improved as a team, in certain games we have had to change the way we want to play really – because we want to get it down and pass it, but sometimes you can’t always do that in every game – I think we have recognised at certain times in the game that we just have to compete and I think that has been the difference really.

“It is just recognising what you need to do in certain games to get a result.”

Tomorrow’s visitors, Accrington Stanley had a week off last Saturday as their home game against Wycombe was postponed and Tonge says the extra rest can be interpreted in different ways.

“People say that can be an advantage to them because they have been rested but it can be a disadvantage because you have not been playing; I think you willl only really know when the game kicks off on Saturday.

“They have been doing really well this season, they are up there in 5th but in this league but the way I have seen it and the teams we have played against, it is just on the day really anybody can beat anybody.

“I don’t think there is any reason why we can’t get a result on Saturday.”

Good results breeds confidence and Tonge says that he is chomping at the bit to get out on the pitch again.

“Me, personally – I wish we had a few midweek games because you are just desperate for the next game to come around really. When you are winning and getting good results you just want to keep playing and you just want the games to keep flowing.

“Hopefully, we can start moving up the league now. We have managed to pull away from the relegation area and a couple more wins will really shoot us into the top half.”

“Usually in football the difference between winning, losing and drawing is pretty small so I think it just takes a few minor details to change, which we have managed to do and it has really helped us.”
