The gaffer looks ahead to Saturday's home game...
GW says that Southend are one of the best teams Boro have faced this season and it will be important to make the most of home advantage when the Shrimpers visit the Lamex on Saturday.
“Southend were probably as good a side we have played this season. We were at a very early stage in our evolution but they were a very strong outfit. When you think that we have gone to them and loaned-in Lee Barnard and he can’t even get in their 18, tells you everything you need to know about the strength of them as a club. They are a big budget club; they have got extraordinary and exceptional resources, real depth in their resources and as I said, no question about it they are as good a side we have played this season.
“I think the game at the weekend is going to be played on a very difficult pitch, I am sure. We know what we have seen when we have been at home recently and it has been difficult. The pitch I am sure is going to play its part.
“I think the big factor from my point of view in relation to the weekend’s game is knowing the surface and knowing how to get the best out of the surface and there is no question we will have the big advantage in that regard.”
With injuries one of the biggest talking points at the club in recent weeks, the gaffer had little to tell us as to who may or may not be available for the weekend.
“We are not sure. The treatment room has got lads in there who are going to test tomorrow morning. Some have gone in their this week after last weekend’s game and some are still in there from before last weekend’s game so tomorrow morning is going to be telling in who is going to be available and who isn’t. At this moment in time we are still a little bit uncertain.”
