Two days into the training camp in Sevilla, Teddy Sheringham says that preparations are going well ahead of the new season.

After arriving in Spain on Saturday afternoon, the players headed out for their first training session where the emphasis was on possession and skill based drills.

Adam Marriott, Steven Schumacher, Chris Whelpdale and Dean Wells all missed out with knocks but worked in the gym and on the sidelines with returns imminent for Schumacher, Whelpdale and Wells.

Marriott will be out a little longer, hoping to be ready for match action before pre-season is over.

On Sunday, the intensity in training ramped up with a longer session which included some tough running to finish off. Fitness coach Dan Barnes was pleased with the times ran by all, everybody showing considerable improvements from ten days prior.

Speaking after the second session, the boss says that it is all about getting ready for Notts County in the first game of the season.

“We are going through what we came here to do and that is to work hard and get ready for August the 8th. The pitches are not great so the quality hasn’t been what I would have hoped but we are gearing up for the new season and it is going well.

“We are trying to progress every time. We are trying to get the players fitter, stronger, getting used to the training so hopefully things will get better every day.

“It is not always the case though, sometimes you have to take a small step backwards and that was probably the case today. The quality was not quite what we have been used to in our previous sessions but I am sure the players will be ready to take two steps forward tomorrow.”
