The boss ahead of Friday's game against Forest...

Ahead of the first home pre-season friendly of the summer, Teddy Sheringham spoke about managing his first game at the Lamex.

“Really looking forward to it, it will definitely be a stiffer test that what we have encountered so far.

“It is a level that we are looking forward to performing at. We are playing at our home ground and it is the first game for me in front of our fans, there are a couple of new signings that the fans will want to see plus how well the players from last year are taking on my take on things.”

Having worked with the players for two weeks now, the boss says he couldn’t be happier with how the squad have applied themselves to his methods.

“Very pleasing, not just the standard but the way they have taken on board what we are all about.

“Every manager has a different idea about how they want their team to play. I have come here with an idea and they are all buying into it which is great.”

Three new signings have come through the door this summer and with about a month until the season starts, Teddy admits that the squad still needs bolstering but there is no need to panic.

“We have got probably 15 or 16 fit players at the moment which is no way near enough; we have about five or six that are injured at the moment and hoping to come back.

“You can always expect to have pretty much that number of injuries so we do need a few more bodies in.

“As I said a couple of days ago, I am really pleased with what I have got and now I am trying to get a couple who can make us better.

“There was something like 800 free transfers in the whole of the Football League at the end of last season so there are plenty of players out there.

“We have to try and pick the right ones with the right character, right mental state, the right temperament and skill level that want to come and play for Stevenage. We will be working hard to try and get them in.”
