TEDDY: "WE'LL LEARN FROM TONIGHT AND GET BETTER"

18 July 2015

Manager Teddy Sheringham reflected on his first pre-season friendly defeat at home to Nottingham Forest and said the fixture against higher opposition was a good test.

He told us, “I know Dougie, I met him out on holiday last year and I liked the way he spoke about his team so I knew it was going to be a really tough task here tonight but that’s what we want. We don’t want it to be easy, we want to put ourselves to the test. There’s no point winning 3 or 4-0 every week, you want to find out what’s good and what’s bad about your team.

"We’ve had a few questions tonight and couldn’t come up with the answers but we’ll buckle down, we’ll learn from tonight and we’ll try and get better. That’s what it’s all about.

“If you asked the team now they’d probably be a bit despondent tonight but you’ve got to realise who you’re playing against. This is a team that’s probably two levels, maybe two and a half levels above us.

"They’re a top team. They’re hoping to do big things this year in the Championship so you’ve got to understand where they’re at and where we’re at. There were a lot of positives out there tonight.”
