GW SAYS TEAM WON'T DWELL ON DAGGERS LOSS

22 March 2015

The gaffer on the 1-0 loss at home to Dagenham & Redbridge...

GW says the decision to award Dagenham & Redbridge a controversial goal yesterday ‘bewilders’ him as it proved to be the decisive goal in a tight game at the Lamex.

The goal was surrounded in confusion as the linesman raised his flag for offside on Labadie, only for Doidge who made the original pass to latch onto his own ball before squaring for Howell to tap in from close range.

“It is completely bewildering. How can you have a linesman stop, flag, give a decision, play go on, the referee then consult the linesman and the linesman not be in a position to see the second offside.

“It bewilders me. I simply don’t understand it. I try and apply common sense to it; I don’t want to knock the referee because in the end I am sure it is the fourth official that gave the goal.”

Despite the incident, Boro struggled to break down a stubborn Dagenham side and GW says we were not at our best.

“We struggled with the surface and we struggled to impose ourselves. I don’t think we deserved to lose the game, they did not offer much going forward. They came here to be resilient, determined and dogged and they were. It was disappointing to lose the game the way we did.

“We just need to worry about the next game and the next three points. Obviously it is a sickener to lose a home game today.”

GW felt as though we were missing one player in particular on Saturday.

“It is a tricky one for us, we have been playing OK. I think Beardo has made a big different to us at home. Without him running the back of them today we were a slightly different side and we have got to work out if we are playing here without Beardo, maybe we have got to think about how we are going to play.”

Despite the frustration of losing the game, the gaffer says the team will be focused on bouncing back.

“We have got some learning to do off the back of today but we were eight unbeaten going into today. We have lost today’s game and are disappointed but being disappointed is not going to be the mentality that we dwell upon.  It is how do we improve, how do we get better and how do we make sure we are better when we play next time around.”
