KEANE LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING STARTED

Keith Keane on signing with Boro for a month's loan...

Keith Keane’s arrival at the Lamex on a one month loan was announced a little earlier today and the midfielder admits he has had a difficult season for Preston, so is chomping at the bit to play some first team football.

“It has been a frustrating season for me. I have played for the manager before and he has seen I have not been playing for Preston so he has given me the opportunity to come and try get Stevenage promoted to League One, which I am more than happy to do.”

GW and Keane know each other well, the gaffer tried signing him for Boro when he was still at Luton and then signed him for Preston shortly after. Keane says that having a manager’s confidence is massive for a player.

“Yeah, definitely. It is always nice when a manager wants you - he knows what I am about, he knows what I can do, can’t do. That is one of the main things in football; you want to play for managers that want you so I was happy to come.”

With so many injured players at the moment, Keane’s versatility to play in different positions will be valuable at this stage of the season so his arrival should make perfect sense.

“You would think so! I can play in a few positions so wherever he needs me, I’ll try to do a good job for the team.”

After completing his first training session with the team, Keane says he is familiar with plenty of the players and he is now ready for Saturday.

“They’re a good bunch of lads, I know a couple of them and I have played against a lot of them quite a few times and it was a good training session. The lads look fit and ready for Saturday, another big game and looking forward to it.”

The first chance to see Keane in a Boro shirt is this Saturday (7th March) when we host Newport County. Ticket details here.
