FRANKS: IT WAS GOOD TO GET THE PERFORMANCE AND RESULT

7 November 2015

Fraser Franks says the team were desperate to right the wrongs of last week by beating Gillingham this afternoon and making it into the Second Round of the FA Cup.

Goals from Schumacher, Whelpdale and Gnanduillet helped secure the 3-0 win and Franks told us there was no way the team were going to get off to another slow start.

“It was our plan. We knew how badly we started last week and we have been working all week to come out fast and dictate our game on them instead of sitting off and letting teams do it to us.

“We got them squeezed up the pitch and then they decided to drop off once we turned them. You can then get the clever players; Deano, Petty, Kenners on the ball and making things happen.”

The 3-0 win is Boro’s best margin of victory this season and Franks hopes that the team can use both the performance and result as a springboard for the league.

“It has been a bit frustrating. Earlier on in the season we weren’t picking up results but were actually playing alright.

“The last two games we have not played well at all so today was good to get the performance and the result and we need to take that on into the league.

“I don’t know if there was pressure off because we knew how much we disappointed the fans last week so we had to come out and put it right.

“There was still pressure on this game; maybe we were slight underdogs with them being a League One team but we did what we could.”

When asked about who he would like to draw in the next round, Franks says he would take anyone at the Lamex.

“We want to turn this place into a fortress so anyone at home but we just want to get into that Third Round and draw a big team.”
