13 November 2015

Stevenage's Ben Kennedy captained Northern Ireland Under-19s to victory in their latest UEFA U19 Championship qualifying game against Norway yesterday.

The talented youngster was handed the armband for this game in Sochi, Russia and gave his side the lead with a 12th minute opener.

Just after half-time the striker also won a penalty but saw his effort turned away by Norwegian goalkeeper Haug. Michael Newberry extended Northern Ireland's lead and although Norway pulled one back two minutes later, Kennedy's side went on to claim all three points.

Stevenage scholar Mark McKee is also part of the squad but was an unused substitute for this game.

The team now sit top of their Group 9 table ahead of their next match against Russia this Saturday, 2pm KO.
