TEDDY ON LUTON TOWN

20 November 2015

Teddy Sheringham will be using his experience of playing in local derbies to get his pre-match message across to his squad ahead of Saturday’s game against Luton Town.

The gaffer says that he hopes the Boro fans will be leaving with the bragging rights come 5pm on Saturday.

“I will be using what I thought was right for me as a player. I will be using that as a manager to try and help my players get on the same sort of lines that I did when I played in local derbies.

“Local derbies are fantastic affairs. Everyone wants to be involved in them and the history of it and we are no different.

“It is one our fans will be very excited about and up for and I know that Luton are bringing a lot of supporters as well so it should make for a fantastic occasion, fantastic atmosphere and hopefully we will see some good football as well.

“The supporters want to have the bragging rights for the next few months until we play them again – it is as simple as that.”

Yesterday we announced the loan signing of Jamille Matt from Fleetwood and the manager says that he hopes he will be able to help unlock his potential.

“We have been looking to improve our squad over the last five or six weeks and Jamille has come up. He has had an interesting career; a lot of people were after him a couple of years ago and his career has kind of stagnated a little bit at Fleetwood.

“He is of the idea and we are of the idea of rekindling where his career should be going. He looks a good acquisition and I am looking forward to working with him.

“There is a lot of potential there and I don’t think he has quite fulfilled that but I like working with players that have got a lot of potential and want to work, he is certainly one of them.”

Having also suffered a slow start to the season, Luton have picked up in recent weeks and are closing in on a play-off place. Teddy says that a few wins can change everything.

“They are paying a lot of money over there and they have got a lot of good players so their expectancy levels are very high. I am sure the pressure was on but he knows and I know - a few wins and that pressure relieves. They are in a comfortable position now, one we are chasing to get to.”
