Fraser Franks was the big winner at the annual end of season awards presentation, winning three out of four awards with Michael Tonge the other winner.
Tonge won the prestigious Supporters Association Player of the Year, coming second in many of the other categories whilst Fraser Franks won the Season Ticket Holders Player of the Year, the BoroChat Player of the Year and the Players Player of the Year.
Speaking after the ceremony, Franks admits he was surprised but honoured by the acclaim.
“I didn’t really expect it. I thought Tongey would take a few more but I am really pleased and thankful to everyone that voted.
“To win awards from both the fans and players is an honour as the fans turn up every week to watch us whilst all players want the Players Player award, really. Being respected by your fellow team mates is what you want so I am delighted.
“I can’t thank the fans enough”, Franks added. “Especially the East Terrace who have always sung my name and stayed right behind the team, always upbeat.
“At times during the season they could have gone the other way but they stuck by us the whole season and it is probably one of the big reasons we have had a decent end to the year and stayed up comfortably in the end, during an otherwise poor season.”
The awards mark a fantastic first season at the club for Franks and he says he feels right at home.
“I have loved it. It is a club where I felt at home straight away. The supporter got behind me right from the off when they probably could have gone against me, signing from Luton and deemed not enough for them.
“It is a pity we couldn’t finish higher up the table but I have really enjoyed the season here.”
Many thanks to the Supporters Association for helping to organise the event.
