FRANKS: WE PUT PRESSURE ON OURSELVES

28 April 2016

Fraser Franks was delighted to see the team score four goals on Saturday as Stevenage won 4-1 at Morecambe.

The defender says it was just rewards for their hard work all over the pitch in recent weeks.

“We made the first half a bit tricky for ourselves, going 1-0 down and we didn’t start great but we got ourselves together and did well after that.

“We have had a solid base for a while now but it is good to see the boys ahead of us getting on the ball, creating chances and scoring goals. They all work hard for the team so it was great to see us score four.”

Franks has played the last six games at left-back during a spell in which we have only conceded three goals.

Although it is a change from his usual position in the back four, it is a change he has embraced.

“I am enjoying it,” Franks said. “I haven’t played their much in my career, I am usually on the right or in the centre but as long as I am playing I am happy to do a job for the team.

“There isn’t a huge adjustment because I usually play on the left side of centre back anyway but maybe I could get forward a little more. Defensively it is not too different.”

AFC Wimbledon arrive at the weekend thick in the play-off hunt and Franks says that the team will be ready to match them.

“We put pressure on ourselves. The manager certainly won’t let us take any game easy. We always want to win so Saturday will be no different.

“Our motivation is to win the final two games and finish as high as we can. We have been on a good run recently so we just want to carry that on.

“Daisy brought it up in a meeting probably two months or so ago now saying ‘We don’t want the season to peter out and head into the summer without any momentum or positivity’.

“We want to go into the off-season with a positive frame of mind, come back with a positive frame of mind and then kick on next season.”

Tickets for Saturday's final home game of the season are available at in-advance prices up until midnight Friday if bought online, or until 5pm from the club shop.
