Managerial advisor, Glenn Roeder reflected on “an extremely important three points” against Newport on Saturday and praised the team for their first half performance in particular.
Although the opposition got back into the game in the second half, Roeder says there was only one team that deserved the win.
“Very satisfied that we got an extremely important three points. Going into the game that was our target, that we needed to get three points to go above Newport and hopefully move on from there with the 12 points that are available from the last four games.
“It was easily our best 45 minutes that I have seen us play in the three weeks that I have been at the club. The disappointment is, and it goes without saying for anyone who was there, that we weren’t quite the same side in the second half.
“Although they scored a late goal which made it a nervy six minutes of added time, there is no doubt about it we were the better team and fully deserved to win the match.”
Tomorrow’s opponents, Bristol Rovers are in the hunt for automatic promotion and Roeder says it will be a good test for the players.
“So now a completely different test against Bristol Rovers who are high goal scorers and have got one of the leading goal scorers in the division.
“They are a very good team in the offensive mode of the game. It is very important that we keep their attacking qualities to a bare minimum to restrict their opportunities.
“We have got to do as well as we did on Saturday in the first half when we are attacking and playing our own offensive game.
“It is a game that all the players, looking at the way they have trained this morning are all looking forward to and are wanting to be doing very well and show off their own talents.”
