Darren Sarll says his team got exactly what they deserved as Notts County beat Stevenage 1-0 at Meadow Lane.

Boro put in an under pay display which brought an end to the recent turn of form.

“A disappointing performance and disappointing result, which we have not had too many of late. I think we have had some good performances or very pleasing results but today is neither.

“I would have been delighted with a point or a win but I think you are kidding yourself if you think that is a good enough performance from a Stevenage side.”

Sarll was particularly frustrated with the way the team kept the ball but says they will be working on improving that aspect over the next week.

“There is absolutely zero point defending if when you get it back, you give it back. Possession and territory then is dominated by the opposition and we have got to be better. The players know they have got to be better and we have got to be better.

“We have got to ensure that this week we re-engage with that quality on the ball and have a better feel for the game offensively because I want to win games and we can’t win games as a football club if we haven’t got the football. So, it is about getting that back and making sure we can be a positive threat.

“We are disappointed because we have not been good enough today. Standards over the season have dropped, we all know that but we have had standards in recent weeks and recent games and we have not lived up to them today. It won’t be stood for. We need to find our feet and we need to get back going.

“We could have taken care of our destiny really today with a more enthused performance. We put a senior team out there today. A senior team that is good enough to take care of the football and dominate possession, it is something obviously we will have to look at in the week.”
