Darren Sarll describes Stevenage’s start of the season as a “mixed bag” so far, with half of the four games played at this early stage leaving the manager satisfied with both performance and result.
Saturday see’s one of the biggest games of the season already as Luton come to town and Sarll says he is pleased with the reaction of the players after Tuesday’s defeat.
“There has been an element of disappointment because we all expect more. Me included, the players included. We know that as an organisation that we have to find that consistency, that high level of performance we saw at Ipswich. I thought we played terrifically well at Notts County, we need to find that on a consistent basis.
“I look at the reaction of the players from Tuesday - everyone was in Wednesday fully focused, committed and concentrated. They were very disappointed and they were very vocal about where they were in terms of that standard of performance on Tuesday night.
"Which was great and it is what I expected out of this group of excellent men. That will always reassure me that when the outside is saying ‘X’ that within we are always saying ‘Y’.”
Sarll knows that playing Luton adds extra importance to the game and says he can’t wait to take to the dug-out on Saturday afternoon.
“I love this game. This is where you see the town unite, this is where you see a lot of pride and we have a lot of existing players from last year and they understand the rivalry, they understand the competition and they understand the importance of getting a win, especially now.
“Luton heightens all of those things. It is going to be a really good game, I am really excited about it and it certainly gets you going.”
