CONLON: AN UNBELIEVABLE FEELING

10 February 2016

Tom Conlon was full of delight speaking to Boro Player HD after helping Stevenage to a 2-1 win over Hartlepool with the first two goals of his young career.

After coming off the bench for an injured Dean Parrett, TC seized the opportunity with goals either side of half-time.

“Great feeling, unbelievable feeling. We have been after that three points for a while now. Sarlly has come in, he has been excellent and we finally put it into play tonight and to get the goals is just a great feeling.

“The boys came flying out the traps, started really well. We had a few chances, we could’ve put them away and put them out of sight early on but it doesn’t quite work like that. We finally got the goal and we stayed on top from there really and then stayed in it for the last ten.”

There is no doubt the pick of the goals - his first just before the break was smashed into the roof of the net from the edge of the box but Conlon says he didn’t even see it.

“I didn’t see it very well to be honest, I hit it and then I fell over but I will watch it back and like I say, we will just keep going. It has been a while since we got three points so it is great, brilliant for the travelling fans so we will just kick-on from there now.

“Some of the lads have been getting on at me in training saying ‘it only happens in training’ but finally it has happened and I am absolutely buzzing to be honest.”

Having gone 2-0 up, Hartlepool made it an uncomfortable end to the evening as they pulled a goal back through Billy Paynter but TC was confident the team would see the game out.

“I thought we were very strong today, especially the back four - Wilko, Wellsy, the full-backs were very strong and I always thought we would see it through but it is never quite over until the final whistle.

“We have to take everything we have done tonight into Saturday.”

Finally, Conlon praised the caretaker manager, Darren Sarll for the job he has done since taking on the role.

“He has been brilliant since he has come in. He knows the lads really well, he has been on at the lads, he knows us all in the dressing room and he has been trying to get us all going and he has done. Like I said, he has been excellent.”
