SEASON PREVIEW: BARNET

21 July 2016

Ahead of the new Sky Bet League 2 season we asked Liam Govey to take a look at each of our 23 opponents. Next up, it's Barnet...

Barnet
Address: The Hive, Camrose Avenue, London, HA8 6AG
Stadium capacity: 5,634
Manager: Martin Allen

Transfers
In
Ryan Watson (Leicester City), Alex Nicholls (Exeter City) and Jean Louis Akpa Akpro (Shrewsbury Town).

Out
Andy Yiadom (Barnsley), Matty Stevens (Peterborough United), Mark Randall (released), Joe Gater (released), Ryan Gondoh (released), Charlie Kennedy (released).

Last Season
A fifteenth place finish may not seem all that glamorous, but given Barnet’s history as perennial strugglers in League Two, it was a welcome change from the usual relegation dogfight. Martin Allen assembled a strong side, with a final day 3-0 win at Crawley showing the strong potential of the youth as well. The building blocks are certainly in place to build upon what many Barnet fans would have deemed a success last season.

Key Players
Maintaining the bulk of last season’s squad could prove crucial for Barnet this season, with ex-Boro defenders Bondz N’Gala and Bira Dembele both key to Barnet’s chances. In midfield, the likes of Malta international Luke Gambin and Sam Togwell have been crucial in Barnet’s rise. The arrivals of Alex Nicholls and Jean Louis Akpa Akpro should also bolster Barnet’s attack, alongside the prolific John Akinde, who scored 24 goals last season.
