2016/17 FIXTURES - THE NEW GROUNDS

22 June 2016

The new Sky Bet League 2 fixtures were released earlier today and will see Stevenage travel to two new grounds in 2016/17.

Darren Sarll's men will face both Grimsby Town and Blackpool for the first time this season and here's more information on when and where we'll be visiting.

Grimsby Town
Away Fixture: Saturday 27th August 2016
Stadium: Blundell Park
Address: Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire, DN35 7PY
Pitch Size: 111 x 75 yards
Capacity: 9,052 (all-seated)

If you're a fan of classic football stadiums then a trip to promoted Grimsby Town should be on your agenda. The Mariners, who won promotion via the National League Playoff Final, have called Blundell Park home since 1899 and whilst much of the stadium has been renovated or rebuilt since, there are parts of its Main Stand which date back to 1901, making it surely the oldest in the Football League.

The stadium is now all-seated and comprises the Main Stand (2,328 capacity), The Pontoon Stand (1,808), the two-tiered Findus Stand (3,022 capacity) and finally the Osmond Stand (1,904 capacity) which houses home and away supporters.

You can read more about Blundell Park on the official Grimsby Town website here.

Blackpool
Away Fixture: Tuesday 14th March 2017
Stadium: Bloomfield Road
Address: Seasiders Way, Blackpool, FY1 6JJ
Pitch Size: 112 x 74 yards
Capacity: 16,007 (all-seated)

The home of Blackpool FC will be among the biggest stadiums we visit next season, with Bloomfield Road only beaten in capacity by Fratton Park, Meadow Lane, Home Park and Brunton Park. It's been the Tangerine's home since 1901 although the stadium has been redeveloped extensively over the last 16 years with three permanent single-tiered stands built and a temporary stand.

Bloomfield Road comprises the Stanley Mathews Stand, Mortensen Kop, South Stand and temporary East Stand. Last season saw away fans housed housed on one side of the Stan Mortensen (North) Stand, with the East Stand generally closed throughout the campaign.

You can read more about visiting Bloomfield Road via Blackpool's away fans guide here.
