Stevenage FC manager, Darren Sarll praised the signing of Jamie Jones as terms were agreed earlier this afternoon.
Jones, who was between the sticks for all of Sarll’s games in charge last season impressed teammates and fans alike during his loan spell.
“Jamie Jones is an excellent signing for the football club. People forget that for years goalkeepers have tried to dislodge Chris Day and ultimately all but Jamie have failed. He brought a confidence and calmness to our defence last year and was a very good reason why we finished so strong.
“He has Championship and top League One experience and this is a top acquisition. He will work very closely with Chris Day and we know how to get the best out of Jamie. He brings an assurance to our side, plenty of experience and also adds to our offensive threat because he can initiate attacks with his excellent technical quality.”
Sarll believes that the pieces are beginning to fall into place for next season now with another top player retained.
"We can attack next year with real momentum knowing that the group we will start with finished last season so consistently. The defensive mentality and performances we showed have now been cemented with the retention of Jones, Wilkinson and Lee alongside existing players such as Henry, Wells and Franks. We have a real strong foundation to build on from here.”
