SARLL: IT HAS NOT BEEN A VERY GOOD DAY

5 March 2016

Darren Sarll admits that his side didn’t deserve anything against Portsmouth on Saturday as the visitors took home the points with a 2-0 win.

Sarll was particularly disappointed with the manner of the first half performance.

“It has not been a very good day. I am more disappointed with the first half mentality and performance which, forget that it is Portsmouth, forget that it is a decent side, you can’t give anyone 45 minutes.

“I thought we didn’t start our day until 46 minutes into play which isn’t good enough, no way near good enough.

“Top that with moments where we gift people goals and we encourage teams to come and score against us, it doesn’t matter if it is Dagenham or Portsmouth, we are going to lose games when we do that.

“We haven’t played well enough today to warrant anything in my opinion.”

Sarll believes that Boro failed to emulate the way they trained during the week and put in an out-of-character display.

“There was a hesitancy and anxiety about our first half performance that I didn’t like and won’t be tolerated.

“We have to make sure that if we train in a certain way every day, that that is our rehearsal for the big show. That big show means you do what you have done in rehearsal, so it is really important that we focus on that and we make sure we get our performance levels back up high.

“The second half, of course it was better. It was a chance that allowed us to come back in, to reevaluate who we are, what we are and what we are trying to achieve and re-direct the players.

“They have had 50 minutes to assert themselves on our football cub, on our ground, in our town and I don’t accept that.”

With just 11 games left until the end of the season, Sarll says that his players need to be up for the fight.

“We know what has happened around us today, it is sink or swim time and you have got to put your hands up and have a fight.

“I know my character so I can quite comfortably tell you my reaction to it. The players will have to follow suit and if they don’t follow suit Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, then they won’t get on that pitch Saturday and I can assure everyone of that.”
