SARLL: THIS IS WHAT REALLY GETS YOU FIRED UP

31 March 2016

Ahead of Saturday’s game at Kenilworth Road, Darren Sarll admits that the ex-Luton Town contingent in the Stevenage squad and backroom staff have helped with preparations for the big game.

Sarll says that it is a game he is relishing.

“This morning when we did our team meeting, there are a few lads that are going back to Kenilworth Road and understand what it is like to be a player there and what it is like to be an opponent there. It is a real source of experience and advice to call upon and use.

“As a supporter myself, this is the best game. I love this game. This is what really gets you fired up and pumping and you want to go and play against your rivals. I have massive respect for Nathan, as a man and a coach that he is. I have massive respect for the football club but as a Stevenage Football Club fan I have that pride and rivalry with the Lutons and Cambridges.

“I really enjoy these games; I think they have that edge to it.

“Let’s get as close to the line as you can emotionally without crossing it.”

With now only eight games to go in the season, Sarll is targeting a strong end to the finish to see us into the summer with some positivity and momentum.

“All I know is that there are only two clubs at the minute who are below us and there are a lot above us. I just want to increase the amount of teams that are below my football team.

“I don’t think it is a season defining weekend. I don’t think it is as critical as that because of the space obviously between us and York but what I know is it is a fantastic opportunity to move up the league in the next four or five days.

“If you wrap Notts County into that as well, in those ten days, it is a terrific opportunity to look up, to have some positivity and to build on the terrific point at Oxford.

“Let’s build on that hard earned point. Let’s look up, let’s look at more points. Let’s get as high up the table as we can, as far away from this mess as we can and enjoy the rest of our season with some real inspiring performances for the supporters, for the club and for everyone around us."
