MATCH REPORT: STEVENAGE 3, ST MARGARETSBURY 0

1 November 2016

Stevenage advanced to the second round of the Herts Senior Cup with a comfortable 3-0 victory over St Margaretsbury this evening.

An XI which comprised squad players and scholars rarely looked troubled against their Spartan South Midlands Premier visitors but only had a single goal lead at the break, courtesy of Tom Pett’s curling effort after 15 minutes.

Jake Hyde headed at the ‘keeper and Luke Slater was catching the eye out wide, but too often the final ball or offside flag thwarted Boro in the opening 45.

Four minutes after the break, Stevenage doubled their lead when Rowan Liburd latched onto an Andrew Fox pass and rounded the ‘keeper.

Michael Tonge and Steve Schumacher offered plenty of experience in the middle of the park and they, combined with Dean Wells and Chris Day, guided their younger team-mates through the game comfortably.

Tonge saw a free-kick well saved, Fox headed straight at Seymour and Schumacher saw his own free-kick clip the bar as chances came and went for Boro.

However Fox’s sliding finish from yards out completed the scoring with 11 minutes to go, as Stevenage ensured safe passage to a second round tie at Leverstock Green at a date yet to be confirmed.
