SARLL ON 6-1 HARTLEPOOL WIN

3 September 2016

Darren Sarll praised his players after they put on a ruthless display at home to beat Hartlepool United 6-1.

Two goals from debutant Tyler Walker were sandwiched around goals from Tom Pett, Dean Wells, Michael Tonge and Matt Godden.

The manager’s feet remain firmly on the ground though despite the huge win.

“It was nice to show the fans exactly what I see every day in training. It was a great performance and a brilliant way to respond to last weekend. That is what they are capable of and it is very important that we keep them there.

“I always talk about the character of the squad and I think it showed today, going down early after a difficult week, they stuck to the game plan and executed it brilliantly.

“We won’t get carried away and we are still a long way off being where we need to be but it has definitely been a good day.”

Sarll named three league debutants in the starting XI with Kgosi Nthle, Tyler Walker and Jack King all involved and he was delighted with the impact all three made.

“I thought Kgosi was absolutely brilliant, the lad hasn’t had a pre-season, has trained on his own for large parts and has had no real game time. I think he was disappointed when I took Ronnie off and not him for a breather! He will get fitter and fitter, it is important we manage him now.

“Tyler had an outstanding debut, I am delighted for him and also Jack King, I thought he was superb in midfield. You can see he has got that shape and presence about him in the middle of the pitch and I thought he did terrific today.”

There was a special mention for Tom Pett though who Sarll believed was the Man of the Match.

“The one that stood out for me though was Tom Pett, I thought he was magnificent in every area of the game.

“He was great aerially for a little lad, he tackled well and when we got him the ball he made such great decisions where he twists and turns. I thought we took real responsibility in the game.”
