Video & Quotes from the boss ahead of Saturday's Season Opener...

Darren Sarll says he is looking forward to seeing how his new side develops over the course of the season after bringing in ten new players this summer.

Stevenage kick-off the new season at home to Newport on Saturday and Sarll says he has a very different side to last year.

“The dynamic of the team has changed in terms of its energy and athleticism. I have seen really good signs there — and that has carried all the way through.

“The energy the players have put into the games has been fantastic. The supporters made that observation at the recent fans’ forum – I am glad they can see what I am seeing, that is always nice.

“That means there is a mutual understanding from within the walls at Bragbury End to the outside.

“I am just looking forward to seeing how this group grows. I actually think we’ve got a group of players now that has a long term feel to it. I’m here to see the squad grow and come through together”.

When asked about aims for the season, Sarll says he just wants to see the team improve upon last year.

“I think we always want to see progress. Everyone will want to see progression, including yours truly.

“Progression will be closing the gap between the play off places and where we finished last year. We want to try and bridge that gap again.

“There are so many fronts on which I want to appease our football club and our viewing public and you have got to understand that at times I can't please you all, but the dynamic of the team is definitely going to give a perception of their willingness to try and get there.

“I think that is the most important thing. We all just want to see our lads try as hard as they can to improve on our points total and position last year. “

Due to the stage of the season, Sarll says there isn’t a huge amount of research available for the coaching staff to look into Newport but he knows they will be ready.

“The one thing they will have is that bit of momentum from their run last year when they did terrifically well and it is important that we squash that as early as possible.

“There isn’t a great deal out there on them to be able to look into, but we have done our best and prepared very thoroughly with what material we can get our hands on. We will be ready come Saturday.”
