- Onto the game…
After Saturday’s 5-2 win over Swindon in the FA Cup, focus quickly switches back to the league as Boro’s tough run of fixtures continues.
Stevenage’s form in Sky Bet League Two has been an issue over the past few months but Boro remain in-and-amongst it due to a strong start to the season.
Darren Sarll and the squad have been encouraged by recent performances though, with it all coming together in last Saturday’s win.
With Wycombe 7 points ahead in the standings, a win would be huge to close the gap and bring Boro back into contention.
As mentioned, Wycombe are flying high with 33 points from 20 games and are just 4 points off the automatic promotion spot.
The Chairboys have been just as strong away as at home, 4 wins and 3 draws from their 10 outings on the road.
Adebayo Akinfenwa is enjoying a stellar season, 11 goals and 6 assists leading the way for his team.
- Team news…
Jack King, Danny Newton and Chris Whelpdale have all missed out on training this week as the physio and support staff try to get them ready for the weekend's game.
We have some good news in that Ben Kennedy returned to training on Thursday and although the Wycombe game will be too soon for him, the plan is for him to make the trip to Exeter in a week's time.
- View from the camp...
“Wycombe’s a tough game, it always is a tough game. Gareth’s side is very committed and he’s done a fabulous job, it’s his fifth/sixth season.
“Anyone who can stay in employment in football management for five seasons should be applauded.
“You know you are going to get a directness in their play that will be supplemented with lots of aggression, lots of commitment and he does really really well at it.
“We need to make sure like last year when we played them at home that we are fully aware and capable of neutralising and bringing our own threat.
“I think we can bring a real threat, obviously the players Monday morning skipped into the training ground rather than debating why we had lost.
“It’s shown this week in training, they have been absolutely magnificent.”
- Previous meetings...
Across 10 games between Boro and the Chairboys, both sides have an exactly equal record of 4 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats.
Even spookier, both teams have scored exactly the same amount of goals – 11 each.
