SARLL ON THE JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW

12 January 2017

Darren Sarll says he is after new additions this January but believes the club may have to remain patient until later in the window.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's game at Plymouth, the manager explained more.

“We are desperately trying to do a few bits to bolster us. We need to maybe bring another couple in.

“I have got to say that in my tenure as manager, I don’t think I have ever had the pick of players.

“This time last year we signed two fabulous players for us in Luke Wilkinson and Jamie Jones, so you can see the value of waiting in January but we do need to strengthen again.”

Although there are obviously footballing reasons as to why the manager would like to strengthen his squad, there are also personality reasons too.

“I feel like the group now needs a little kick, maybe a different character in the building just to give it a bit of a shock and keep the environment vibrant, new and fresh.

“Harry was a massive personality around the training ground, a very, very popular young man and I want to try and replace that vibrancy.

“We will be doing our absolute best to bring in as good a player that can add as much quality and value to us as we can.

“I think it is always important when you are at Stevenage that you are always trying to find the next one to unearth.

“A young player may pop out of our own academy system and play in the first team between now and the end of the season. We have certainly got that hope for young Mark McKee if he can get a bit of consistency to his training.”

Finally, Sarll confirmed that talks are ongoing with Jack King after his loan spell expired at the weekend.

“We are trying our best. We are talking to Jack and things are taking a bit of time.

“It is tough because you get to Wednesday and on Thursday and Friday, you want to really be knuckling down and getting your head 100% focused on Saturday. You haven’t even got all week, you only have the first three days to get things done.

“Jack is very open in his dialogue with myself. We would love Jack King at the football club it is whether we can all meet in the middle and make sure everything is right for everyone.

“I just want the best possible people and players and Jack certainly falls into that.”
