SCHUMACHER: WE WILL STICK TOGETHER

22 January 2017

Steve Schumacher had little positive to say about Saturday’s performance at Hartlepool, reckoning it to be the worst display the team have put in so far this campaign.

A sloppy end to the first half saw Hartlepool take control of the game through two quick fire goals and a Boro comeback always seemed unlikely from then on.

“I thought we were terrible. Probably our worst performance of the season if I am being honest and there wasn’t a lot right with it.

“In the first half we didn’t win compete, didn’t win enough second balls and didn’t pass the ball well enough. The second half was minor improvement but still not enough.

“We never go out there not wanting to win but we just weren’t on it. The most disappointing thing from my point of view was when we did get the ball; we didn’t use it well enough and gave it away under little pressure.

“That has been something we have been good at recently so that was particularly frustrating.”

Now going through a difficult run, Schumacher says the squad is determined to put it right.

“I feel for the supporters who travelled all this way. We have prided ourselves on delivering good performances away from home this season and it hurts both us and them to have a game like today.

“We will do everything we can to make sure it’s an aberration as we know we are capable of much more and playing much better.

“We’re not in a good run of form at the minute but we still believe in each other and we will stick together to get out of it.”
