GODDEN: WE ARE BEING RUTHLESS

5 March 2017

After scoring another two goals in Saturday’s win against Notts County, Matt Godden praised his teammates for the work they do in helping him thrive.

Boro made it seven wins from eight with yesterday’s 3-0 win and when asked what he puts our brilliant run of form down to, Godden used one word.

“Ruthless is the one word for it. We are being ruthless in box boxes. Not just in the attacking third but you can’t take away what all the back four and Chaz has done sitting in front. It has really helped us as a team and given us a platform to build on.

“We link up well on the pitch but it is not just Kenners, it is everyone. We are playing so well as a team at the moment, everyone knows what they are doing. We have got a real balance as a team, not just the XI on the pitch as well, the squad players, everyone in the squad is pushing the first XI and I think that is why we are getting rewarded on the pitch.”

Godden’s 19th and 20th goals of the season capped off another fantastic performance from the striker but he admits he should have had more.

“I should have had three, maybe four. The one in the first half especially it is unlike me to put it over from that sort of chance. It was nice to get two but looking back on it, could have had the match ball.

“It is what I came here to do, to prove myself and I am starting to do that now.

“The most important thing is it keeps this run going and to keep pushing up this table.”

Despite all the recent success, there is a steely determination about the camp at the moment as they remain focused on each game as it comes.

“We will ignore the league table. I know everyone looks at it from the outside but in the dressing room we will ignore it and keep trying to do what we do and come the end of the season hopefully we will be there or thereabouts.

“The way we are playing at the moment we fancy ourselves to be right up there, there is a really good feel good factor in the dressing room so we will keep going.”
