James Ferry ready to hit the ground running

12 May 2017

James Ferry hopes to get off to a flyer in pre-season after the new signing revealed he has already got to know his Stevenage teammates and coaches.

We announced the signing of Ferry earlier today and the midfielder says the club had been keeping track of him for a while.

“I played a reserves game against Stevenage before Christmas and afterwards Glenn (Roeder) told me that he thought I did well.

“Then in January I came up to train for a couple of days so that they could take a good look at me.

“I then played another game against Stevenage in February and after they said the club would like to bring me in permanently and be a part of their plans.”

Following agreement from Brentford, Ferry was allowed to spend the back end of the season with the squad which he believes can only help the transition.

“I have had a couple of months already with the lads so I have got to know them and there isn’t any settling in period.

“It has been really useful in that sense so I am just looking forward to getting back from the summer and kicking on.

“The gaffer has been good with me. He has told me exactly what he wants and that is all I can ask for - a clear picture of what I need to do.

“I get around the pitch, I am a good passer and I am a dynamic player.

“I am buzzing. I just want to get focused for next season and try to do well.”

Speaking about the signing, Darren Sarll was clearly delighted with the acquisition.

“James follows the path that we take with many now, bringing in very bright, young players that have great potential into our squad. He will join the likes of Gorman, Kennedy and Conlon in our list of exceptional young players.

“He brings energy, enthusiasm and a real high level of technical ability to the playing squad.

“We identified James from Brentford B games across the season and when he played against us, we felt he was at the level we wanted and needed to improve the team.

“We moved very quickly with Brentford to organise a permanent transfer who were a joy to deal with during the process.”
