We catch up with JG prior to this evening's game...
Ahead of tonight’s FA Youth Cup clash at Luton, U18s boss Jorden Gibson says his players are ready for a big game under the lights at Kenilworth Road.
The U18s have enjoyed a fantastic start to their league season – tasting defeat just the once with six wins and five draws out of the opening 12 games.
Even at youth level, games against Luton take on extra meaning but Gibson says he is trying to keep the players on an even keel.
“It is a local derby, it is the FA Youth Cup and it is certainly exciting. Everybody is really looking forward to it.
“We have tried to approach it like any other game as our planning and preparation has been working for us this season. We haven’t overplayed the game to the lads for that reason but we are in a good place and are ready for the challenge.
“Spirits are great. We are in good form coming off a 4-2 win at the weekend and everyone is eager to play. Naturally everyone’s levels will be raised that extra 10/15% but if we can keep doing what we have been doing and put it into play tonight in a bigger arena, there is no reason why we can’t get into the next round.”
Although Gibson says that they will be treating the game like any other, he admits it is their biggest game of the season.
“Of course it is. We know that but we are trying to make sure our lads can be themselves. They need to continue doing what they have been doing really well of late.
“We still want them to enjoy the occasion though and we understand it is their biggest competition. Of course they will think about it, they will have extra nerves and extra adrenaline but whoever best deals with the pressure will ultimately win the game.”
